<Jacques Renault – 2 CHATS WITH THE DJ BEFORE THE AMAZING SET

Il 23 maggio 2014 che poi starebbe un mesetto fa abbiamo avuto il piacere/onore di ospitare un grande personaggio della scena Nu Disco/House del momento. Nato a Washington D.C. ma newyorkese d’adozione Jacques Renault ha avuto l’abilità di anticipare quell’incredibile ondata house/disco che è ripiombata nel mercato discografico internazionale sfornando il remix di un brano che più tardi avrebbe spianato il terreno ai Daft Punk che celebravano la musica di fine anni 70 con un intero album. Stiamo parlando del remix del brano Beam Me Up dei Midnight Magic. Il resto è storia.

Noi abbiamo fatto una piacevole chiacchierata con lui prima del suo dj set al Cafè del Binari qui a Milano per il nostro Rollover Party ed abbiamo scoperto una bella persona dietro un grande professionista.

Abbiamo appreso per esempio che ha cominciato a dedicarsi completamente alla sua carriera da dj solo dopo essere stato licenziato dall’azienda dove lavorava perché presentatosi in ufficio per l’ennesima volta stremato dopo l’ennesima serata. Che è tutto merito dei suoi genitori se adesso è un dj affermato perché lo hanno sempre incoraggiato a suonare qualsiasi strumento senza mai ostacolarlo nelle sue scelte professionali, senza mai indirizzarlo al posto fisso in ufficio. Le persone con cui si sente più a suo agio dietro la consolle sono due sue vecchi amici Justin Miller e Marcos Cabral, dj e producer degni rappresentanti della scena House/Disco Newyorkese attuale. Che la sua ossessione musicale del momento è un brano omaggio alla musica africana e che si chiama Lagos, New York by Africaine 808 inserito come di consueto all’interno della nostra playlist fotografica #rolloverfanplaylist.

Ma soprattutto è bello scoprire a fine serata il suo giudizio circa il nostro party e alla domanda “Ti sei divertito stasera?” segue la sua risposta:

On 23 May 2014, that is, one month ago, we had the pleasure and honor of hosting a major character in the current Nu Disco / House music scene. A New Yorker but born in Washington DC, Jacques Renault had the ability to anticipate that incredible wave of house & disco music that soared back into the international music scene, churning out a remix of a song that later paved the way for Daft Punk who celebrated the music of this late 70s era with a whole album dedicated to it. We are talking about the remix of the song Beam Me Up by Midnight Magic. The rest is history.

We had the chance to catch up with him before his DJ set at the Cafe del Binari in Milan, where he was here for our Rollover Beethoven party. He turned out to be a pretty nice and easy going guy, as well as being the professional he is in public.

We learnt for example that he only started to devote himself entirely to his DJ career just after he parted aways with his last job – which could have been foreseen of course, as he had showed up in the office shattered yet again after another night of playing at a party. He credits his parents for his success as a DJ, apparently because they had always encouraged him to play all types of musical instruments, never forcing him into one specific genre or kind of career. Other DJs with which he feels more comfortable behind the decks are two of his old friends Justin Miller and Marcos Cabral, DJs, producers and themselves also worthy representatives of the House / New York Disco scene today. Jacques’ musical obsession at the moment is a song that pays tribute to African music, called Lagos, New York by Africaine 808, which of course we have included with a snap of Jacques in our #rolloverfanplaylist selection.

All these things aside however, we have to admit that our favourite thing he said to us was at the end of the Rollover night. We asked him for his opinion on the night – “Did you have fun tonight?” and he responded:

THIS PARTY IS FUCKIN GREAT!
